A collection of sound initiated by MTAA

To Be Listened To…

(AKA sound files that may be downloaded and experienced with the hope of some sort of resolution or at least a moment of clarity)

…introduction

"To Be Listened To…" (2bl2 for short) is an open relay for sound art, audio blogs, mashups, re-mixes, dance mixes or any other sort of experimental audio.

Comprised of 10 thematic podcast feeds, anyone may post an audio file to one or more of the 8 open feeds. Each feed's name, along with the original 'seed' post is meant to set its tone. We encourage re-mixing of currently published audio (please notice the license terms associated with some audio files).

…tech info

How do I subscribe to a feed?
Each channel/feed has a little RSS icon ( ) that links to it's feed URL. To subscribe to a feed you need to copy the feed URL and then paste it into a software program that manages podcasts.

You can also try using the 1-click iTunes links you find on the site to subscribe to a feed in iTunes. You'll find links to the überfeed at the top of pages on this site and links for individual feeds at the bottom of individual feed pages.

There are many software applications that allow you to subscribe to podcast feeds: Apple's iTunes (PC, Mac) is free and works well; there's also NetNewsWire (Mac), Juice (PC, Mac) and Bloglines (web-based). You can find more listed on Wikipedia. To subscribe to a 2bl2 feed, follow the instructions for your particular software.

If you're still confused, here's a good tutorial.

What is the Überfeed?
It is a special feed that carries everything posted in every feed on 2bl2.

How do I add a file to a feed?
The audio file needs to be online or you can post to our server using the upload page. If you use the 2bl2 upload feature you are limited to files under 10MB and files in the format of MP3 or M4A (AAC). If you use your own server or use a free hosting service like the Internet Archive or blip.tv there are no file or format limitations. Once you have your file online and know the URL, go to the 'post a file' section of this site and follow the instructions in order to add it to a channel.

Can I post anything to a feed?
No. You must post an audio file, preferably an MP3 file (more technically, the server on which the audio file resides must return a mime type of 'audio/mpeg'). We urge you to play nice and try to get into the spirit of the project. We will remove items that we find stupid, insulting or otherwise offensive.
