On
WNYC this morning, I heard a report on how the reorganization of
The Altria Group (parent of Phillip Morris and, until today, Kraft Foods) will adversely affect arts funding in NYC.
This NY Sun article has a good rundown of the institutions that receive large funds from this company and how they’ll be affected. The NY Sun article is 3 weeks old, but I haven’t heard much about it until today. Today is the day that Altria is announcing exactly how they’re restructuring.
Some that may see this funding disappear: The Whitney, BAM, Brooklyn Museum, and The New Museum, of which Rhizome.org is part (no!).
The report on WNYC suggested that
The Whitney at Altria is a goner.
